HUGE NEWS for Educators working w/Teens

02 Jun 2007 @ 07:06 am · 5 Comments ·

[DISCLAIMER: although I am not presently affiliated with Firesabre Consulting LLC, I am a volunteer on Peggy Sheehy's Ramapo Islands project, where Firesabre has played a major role.]

This message was just posted on the Educatorsandteens mailing list:

Firesabre and Global Kids are creating a Teen Second Life Virtual World Campus that will make it far easier for educators to use Second Life. Up to now there’s been a steep learning curve, and high minimum costs.

1 – There’s no need to buy a private island from Linden Lab to create an education area for teens.

2 – Educators can rent or buy land parcels for projects.

3 – Firesabre handles much of the interaction with Linden Lab.

4 – Firesabre associates are available to provide answers and assistance.

Please contact me off-list for further details of this project.

I know nothing about this beyond what is written above, though I most certainly intend learn more.

Like, TODAY.

Can you IMAGINE the implications for educators working with teens in SL? How much EASIER it will be to establish and maintain a classroom presence? How much FASTER teachers will be able to get up and running with a class project? How much TIME WILL BE SAVED, allowing teachers to focus on curriculum and virtual pedagogy?

The mind BOGGLES…

Fred, I hope Firesabre and Global Kids are ready, because you are about to be INUNDATED with inquiries from ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Like, TODAY.

Wow…

I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on this. I have written Fred but have not heard back from him. I know he is probably overloaded with emails. Have others found out more about this project? Thanks

    Hey Bodo,

Let me see what I can find out! I’ve not heard much since the announcement either but I know they are working feverishly. I’ll post back soon!

FireSabre is a professional, creative and visionary organization! Without their SL expertise and technological know-how, Ramapo Islands would never have been developed and implemented as smoothly as it was! I highly recommend Fred and his team at FireSabre!

Our new Virtual World Campus project in Teen SL will make it far easier for educators to use SL. Educators can concentrate on curriculum. We’ll handle the technology and liaison with LL.

Educators will be able to share content and ideas within Teen SL. No longer will educators be locked away in a closed region.

Please see our website for more information starting later today. (20 June 2007)
