Virtual Worlds Going (Gone?) Mainstream

I heard that a recent Law & Order: SVU featured a virtual environment called Another YOUniverse, loosely patterned after Second Life. I don’t watch TV, but the good folks over on the SLED listserv have the skinny about the episode. Apparently not to be outdone, CSI: New York is actually basing an episode in Second Life on October 24th. Might actually try and watch that – or catch the action in-world before the sim fills up. But the coolest thing I’ve seen yet is this Toyota commercial featuring players in World of Warcraft:

Don’t you just LOVE the dialog? Truly funny stuff. Maybe I’ll try WoW someday. For now, my gaming urges are satiated with a few minutes of BioShock here and there with my oldest daughter Jamie sitting next to me, pointing out all the things I’m missing. Beyond that, any other free time I’ve got (about six hours a day) is devoted to my other favorite hobby, sleeping.
