Looking for a permanent place to call your own in Second Life (on the main grid)? Don’t want to deal with the hassle and cost of getting your own island? Not sure what sim to choose or who to do business with? Keep reading, you’ll get those answers, and more…
EduIsland 5, the latest educationally-focused island to be launched by Fleet Goldenberg and the good folks at Squirrelverse, will be opening soon. Take a look!

Delivery of the island isn’t expected for a few weeks but inquiries are welcome now. This is a terrific opportunity for educators interested in Second Life for several reasons:
- Location, location, location. EduIsland 5 will be located in the area recently vacated by ISTE, who moved a few clicks north and east. As you can see on the map below, the parcel is bound on one side by EduIsland II (also managed by Fleet; I have two facilities there), on top by Renaissance Island, and below by EduIsland III. Not shown (just a parcel away) is Kathy Schrock’s Lighthouse Learning Island, and ISTE Island is just north of that. It’s a fantastic area for educators to collaborate! You can expect to find people milling around at different hours of the day. The area gets quite a bit of traffic and it’s virtually all like-minded educators interested in exploring Second Life.
- Super simple setup – Fleet handles everything. It doesn’t get any easier, folks. You contact Fleet, log into SL, he shows you some model homes, you decide what you want, toss him some Lindens, and in a matter of minutes (literally) your new facility is ready for use. Poof! Just like that.
- Reasonable cost and flexible lease terms. I have not seen his pricing scheme but if it’s anything like he’s offered in the past, it’s a terrific value for what you get. Rent by month or as long in advance as you want. Get a small plot or a gigantic hunk of ground. Choose a simple building or something complex. He’s even flexible with prim allowances! I went with a one-year lease on my facilities and haven’t regretted it!
- Fleet provides outstanding service and support. There is nothing like getting FREE support for integrating audio & video streams, cool free furnishings and other objects, advice about design, etc. from your landlord. The best part is when you do something stupid (like delete half your building), Fleet is there usually within moments of your request (he’s located in the U.K. but I don’t believe he actually sleeps.) I know, I’ve needed his help MANY times. :-)
So, if you are interested in a place of your own, or perhaps for your organization, and you don’t know where to start (or want to spend huge coin for a presence you may decide you don’t like or need), contact Fleet today. For the record, I have no affiliation with Fleet other than as a satisfied customer, and I have no financial stake in anything related to his business. I’m just happy to be able to recommend a reliable business partner to fellow educators worldwide.
See you in Second Life!
