Twofer Tuesday! Dual Presos at ISTE Island

Yesterday we had (as far as I know) the first ever back-to-back (almost!) presentations on ISTE Island. There were a few bumps along the way, but overall both sessions were each a great success, thanks to our talented speakers, outstanding volunteer helpers, and ISTE’s terrific meeting space. Some photos from the event can be found here.

Buddy Sprocket & Gia RossiniBuddy Sprocket (RL: Daniel Livingstone) and Gia Rossini (RL: Jia Dewitz) got things started at 3pm SLT with their session on Sloodle. They not only explained the application, the project and its purpose, but provided live demonstrations of its capabilities directly within SL. Timing was perfect as this weekend’s upcoming Sloodle Moot promises something like 35 hours (!) of presentations about Sloodle and Second Life. More details are available here or you can check out the Sloodle Moot events listing on Facebook, here. Thanks, Buddy and Gia!

BlueSkunk JohnsonLater, BlueSkunk Johnson (RL: Doug Johnson) took the stage with Elaine Tulip (RL: Lisa Perez) to discuss “Intellectual Freedom in a Filtered World.” BlueSkunk’s presentation was extremely thought provoking and insightful, effectively using humor to make some very serious points. I enjoyed the way he boiled down the core issues to simple, matter-of-fact statements. I was unable to stay for the whole presentation, but BlueSkunk kindly provided a link to his wiki, which contains his slides as well as recent articles and other resources worth perusing. Thanks, BlueSkunk and Elaine!

These events couldn’t have been a success without the fantastic ISTE Island Management team and our capable volunteer corps, including (in no particular order and if I’ve left out your name please leave me a comment and I’ll add you!): Kittygloom Cassady, RavenPhoenix Zenovka, Kyle Thorn, Esme Qunha, Roshana Rives, Corrine Fleury, Louise Borgnine, Dewey Jung, Claird Loon, Teacher Spitteler, and … ok, who else???

Next Tuesday, the ISTE Speaker series will feature Butch Dae (RL: George Kurtz) and Goedeke Messmer (RL: John Lopez) and their work on a 3D mind mapping application in Second Life. Check out the post below for more details and we hope to see you there!

Thanks for the review and links, dude. I could only make part of the SLoodle thing and none of BlueSkunks, but your shareshare will help me get at least partway up to speed wit’ it. You de man!
