From Berlin to Baghdad: lessons to be taken from the Iraqi drama

My Second Life friend Irah Anatine (RL: Ana Alves), the person behind The Babel Project, is hosting a meeting in Second Life you should check out. Mr. Paulo Casaca, a Member of the European Parliament in Portugal’s Socialist Party, will be speaking on Friday, January 18th at 12:00 Noon SLT at Irah’s sim, Babel:

Although she is not an educator by trade, she is one by choice, and is spending a great deal of time exploring the use and implications of Second Life in education. Her connection with Mr. Casaca has led naturally to helping him leverage Second Life as a means of communication with his constituents and the world. He is reportedly the first member of the European parliament to be using Second Life in this way.

From what I’ve heard from Irah, his presentation is going to be extremely powerful and thought-provoking, and, informed by his direct, personal experience with Iraqi politics. I don’t want to give anything away by saying more, but do want to encourage you to IM Irah Anatine or send email to irah_anatine@hotmail.com to register for this free event. The sim will be closed to the public at the time of the talk, so advance registration is critical.

I will be just finishing my school day (with a class of second graders) and do plan to attend. Hope to see you there!
