She said she was nervous … and was afraid no one would show … but she was clearly wrong on both parts!
Pipsqueak Fiddlesticks (RL: Denise Cote), Associate Professor, Librarian, College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn Illinois, joined us at the ISTE Bandshell last night. The title of her talk was “Community Colleges in Virtual Worlds: Opportunities and Challenges in the New Frontier of School & Work.” A terrific crowd of about 35 avatars attended her presentation (transcript here, photos here).
Listening to her present, it struck me that Second Life can be thought of as The Great Equalizer. We saw screenshots of builds that rival those belonging to much larger educational institutions. Innovative creations reflecting creativity, passion, outstanding educational design and focus. Much like how a small institution can use a professional web presence to dramatically change how it’s perceived in the marketplace, these small community colleges are using Second Life to dramatically (and cost-effectively) change how education is getting done in the real world. Check the session transcript, above, for more!
